Our Team

At Safe Families Northern Colorado, our team is united by a shared passion—to see children remain safely at home and families surrounded with the support they need during difficult seasons. We believe that no family should have to face crisis alone, and that meaningful relationships can change the trajectory of a family’s story.

Each member of our team brings both personal and professional experience to this work. Together, we partner with churches, volunteers, and community members to build strong networks of support—walking alongside families with compassion, connection, and hope.

Roxene (Roxy) Tines | Chapter Director

Roxy Tines is passionate about helping families stay together and ensuring they have the support they need during times of crisis. Her heart for family preservation grew out of her work in child welfare, where she saw firsthand the impact of isolation on families.

During her time as a caseworker, Roxy encountered a situation that deeply changed her perspective—a mother in crisis who had no support system and no one to step in and support her during a difficult moment. That experience led Roxy to pursue a different way of supporting families and ultimately drove her to launch Safe Families for Children in Northern Colorado.

As Chapter Director, Roxy leads the vision and growth of Safe Families across the region, building partnerships, equipping staff and volunteers, and helping create strong networks of support for families. She is passionate about connecting families with compassionate communities so children can remain safely at home whenever possible.

Roxy comes from a large blended family, which has shaped her perspective and deepened her understanding of the complexities families face. In her free time, she enjoys running and is working toward completing a half marathon in all 50 states.

Andrea McFarlane | Family Coach Supervisor

Andrea is passionate about supporting families and helping them access the resources and relationships they need to stay strong and stable during difficult seasons. With over 15 years of child welfare experience in Colorado, she has spent her career walking alongside families in crisis and helping them move toward greater stability.

Andrea holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Social Work. Her experience, combined with her heart for families, shapes the care and support she provides each day.

At Safe Families, Andrea plays a key role in connecting families to the support they need. She meets with parents, listens to their stories, and helps match each family with a Circle of Support that provides both practical help and meaningful relationships. She also oversees and supports Family Coaches, equipping them as they walk alongside families and ensuring each Circle of Support is well supported.

She is married and has three boys who keep her busy. In her free time, Andrea enjoys playing volleyball, drinking coffee, and spending time outdoors with her family.

Katie Borchert | Outreach Coordinator

Katie Borchert is passionate about helping families stay together and ensuring they have the support they need during difficult seasons. As an Outreach Coordinator with Safe Families for Children, she works to connect families in crisis with caring volunteers who can walk alongside them, creating meaningful relationships that strengthen families and prevent unnecessary separation.

Katie’s heart for family preservation grew during the eight years she spent living in Uganda as a missionary. While there, she founded and led a nonprofit focused on women’s empowerment, education, and business development, helping women build stability for their families. She also worked with the organization Reunite, which focused on returning orphaned children to the care of their extended families whenever possible. As an adoptive parent, Katie has seen firsthand the impact trauma can have on children and the importance of safe, supportive environments. Her personal experiences, combined with her professional background, shape the compassion and commitment she brings to her work each day.

Katie holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in International Studies from Colorado State University. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, eating sushi, and thrifting.

Ann Marie Root | Community and Church Engagement

Ann Marie Root is passionate about family preservation, driven by a deep understanding of the long-term impact of foster care—especially for youth who age out of the system. She believes families thrive when they are surrounded with the right support at the right time, helping stabilize crisis and keeping children safely at home with their parents.

As an adoptive parent, Ann Marie has seen firsthand the importance of safe, supportive environments for children and families. Her personal experience, combined with over 30 years in community engagement, leadership development, and faith-based outreach, shapes the work she leads today.

In her role with Safe Families for Children, Ann Marie partners with churches and community organizations to build strong networks of support. She equips and encourages volunteers to step into meaningful relationships with families in crisis, creating Circles of Support that provide both practical help and lasting connection.

She lives in Northern Colorado with her husband and enjoys spending time with their four adult children, their spouses, and grandchildren, as well as exploring small towns and keeping up with their energetic puppy.

Jildi Gentry | Regional Support Specialist

Jildi Gentry brings over 35 years of experience in early care and learning, systems building, and collaborative community impact. She is passionate about helping people experience accessibility, a strong sense of belonging and mattering, and she enjoys equipping others through coaching and training in relationships and organizational culture.

Her work spans both nonprofit and business settings, where she has supported organizations in building healthy, sustainable systems. Jildi is also a GPS RoundTable™ Certified Facilitator in Values-Based Leadership, reflecting her commitment to developing leaders and strengthening communities.

As a single mother of multi-ethnic, neurodiverse adult children, Jildi brings both personal experience and professional insight to her work. She is known for her ability to connect with those who have struggled to trust others, building relationships that create safety and connection.

At Safe Families, she is drawn to the mission of walking alongside families, building meaningful relationships, and helping create the support systems that keep children safe and families together.
